International Sustainable Studytrip Sweden 2023

From Tuesday 30 May until Thursday 1 June, the yearly studytrip took place, this year to Sweden.

Stefan Nilson was our host and with his colleagues of SGF they had prepared a great program.

There were representatives from Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands and Sweden.

Day 1

After welcome and introduction to Hills GK, Peter Edman (SGF) gives a presentation about golf in Sweden. He talks about his work as an agronomist for the SGF. He also shows how the climate conditions pose major challenges to the greenkeepers.

Patrik Niklasson of Skovde GK gives a presentation about automowers, MLSN and grass clippings volume.

Next we went to the Botanical Garden, where Marina Usoltseva, director of the Botanical Analysis Group tells us about her activities in researching fungi in grasses.

Next on the program was a visit to Dagsholm GK, where we were welcomed by owner Niklas Jansson. We enjoyed a tasty dinner with special a much appreciated mooseburger.

Marco Blom gives after dinner a presentation about his experiences with watermanagement.

Day 2

We stayed at the Bohusgården hotel. After breakfast we returned to Dagsholmen GK, where Niklas presented his story on the developments and his vision for sustainable greenkeeping.. After that we walked around the course to enjoy and see the real thing.

Next we went south, and made a stop in a restaurant called Salt et Silt in Klädesholmen a small pittoresc village on the coast.

After this we went to Hofgårds GK. After a hospitable welcome, the owner Mr. PG Peterson told us about his great success namely 30 years of pesticide and fungicide free management, with a beautiful course as a result including a beautiful and flourishing nature. Then the head greenkeeper, Pär Sturesson, told more details about the sustainable maintenance. We ended the afternoon with a walk through the course.

We said goodbye and drove to our hotel called Gottskär.

After diner we had a presentation about Artificial Intelligence and the possible applications on golf by Claes Holmström.

Dag 3

After a welcome at Vallda G&CC, headgreenkeeper Johan Axgren tells us about the golf course and the challenges of maintenance at Vallda G&CC.

Next Stefan Nilson tells us about the construction of Vallda G&CC..

Flip Wirth made a presentation about the latest developments of DGB and the status of some research projects.

Arthur Wolleswinkel explains the state of affairs of the dollar spot investigation in the Netherlands.

After lunch we take a group photo, thank our hosts and then the delegations go home. The DGB group had some extra time and found a nice spot on the coast to breathe in some sea breeze.
